R.I.P. Ray Harryhausen
The movie-loving world is mourning the loss of stop motion animation pioneer Ray Harryhausen who passed away overnight aged 92. For those of us who grew up on the incredible work of Harryhausen as seen in films like Jason and the Argonauts (check out the clip below) and the original Clash of the Titans this is a massive bummer. His animation genius influenced many of today’s top visual visionaries, clearly seen throughout Peter Jackson’s filmography amongst many more, and while his legacy will live on, the man himself will be sorely missed. The sad news of his passing was announced on the Ray and Diana Harryhausen Foundation Facebook page and you can also check out obituaries all over the internet, including a detailed write-up on The Hollywood Reporter.
New films and casting news
Iron Man 3 co-writer/director/current Hollywood hotshot Shane Black has announced his next film, according to Deadline. They’re reporting that Black has just struck a deal with Sony to helm a big screen adaptation of ’30s and ’40s pulp novel hero Doc Savage.
James Franco has joined Oscar-nominated director Wim Wenders’ upcoming film Everything Will Be Fine, said to bring 3D drama to the masses. According to Variety, the Franco will play a writer who, over the course of 12 years, is plagued by the accidental death he caused of a young boy.
Ben Affleck will return to Boston in Spring (i.e. September, October, November) to shoot Live By Night, his Argo follow-up. Pre-production has already begun, says Deadline.
