Reel Brazil Film Festival opens in Wellington

While the largest country in Latin America gets ready to host the Fifa World Cup in 2014 and the Olympic Games in 2016, Kiwis can experience Brazil’s diversity right here in Aotearoa, at the 4th Reel Brazil Film Festival in Auckland (18-28 April) and Wellington (02-12 May).

The festival started its tour in Auckland on the 18th of April. The Auckland leg of the festival brought in a steady audience with a balanced mix of Latin Americans and New Zealanders – now it’s time for Wellington to muscle in on the action and show we can beat the Auckland numbers.

The Corporate Opening Night was presented with the Auckland Chamber of Commerce, and International Manager Fuimaono Tuiasau said the Reel Brazil Film Festival “brought many business and community leaders together to celebrate Brazilian flare, music, culture and film.”

A festival standout was Two Rabbits, an urban thriller with animated special effects sequences, and its first screening received a standing ovation. Other festival successes have been the music documentary Tropicalia, the beautifully shot Found Memories, and the documentary about social entrepreneurship Who Cares?
