Australian trailer and release date for Obi-Wan Kenobi season 1
Disney knew just what they were doing when they decided to use “Duel of the Fates” in the teaser for Obi-Wan Kenobi‘s first season.
The operatic John Williams theme first showed up in the maligned prequel trilogy, where Ewan McGregor’s heroic mentor Obi-Wan was a well-received shining light amongst all the Jar-Jars, lame romance, and podracing distractions. Now, sage Jedi master Obi-Wan Kenobi gets his own solo show, premiering on Disney+ this May 25.
Star and executive producer McGregor isn’t the only returning character fans might recognise in the teaser below. Joel Edgerton makes an appearance as Uncle Owen, Bonnie Piesse will reprise her role as Aunt Beru, and—most redemptively of all—Hayden Christensen will play Darth Vader once again.
That’s because the series is set a decade after the events of the Clone Wars and Obi-Wan’s traumatic fallout with his greatest pupil. Voiceover narration from the creepy Inquisitor (Rupert Friend) places the blame squarely on Obi-Wan’s white-cloaked shoulders: “Jedi cannot help what they are—their compassion leaves a trail…”
Set to unfold a new inbetween-y chapter over six episodes, Obi-Wan Kenobi will introduce a new batch of bad guys to get snipped down to size by our hero’s blue lightsaber. The Queen’s Gambit standout Moses Ingram is athletic Inquisitor Reva, whose mission from the Galactic Empire may be complicated by the end of the series.
We’re also getting a whole new planet: the graffiti-stricken Daiyu, which should be a nice contrast to the endless desert plains of Tattooine…where Kenobi spots a happy-go-lucky young boy pretending to be an X-Wing pilot. Eh, he’s probably nothing special.
