Spy Ops season one: Australian trailer and release date

The glut of espionage thrillers on our screens right now is a clear indicator that we love a bit of spy vs spy action. But if you’re a bit bored with fictional thrillers, you can now get an inside look at the real deal, as the new documentary series Spy Ops arrives Australia when it launches on Netflix on September 8.

Perusing the official synopsis we found in an old dead drop in Gorky Park, we see that the latest offering from doco producers Big Media looks tasty. “In this intense true crime series, intelligence operatives from MI6 to the CIA share insider stories of spy craft, Cold War campaigns, and coups carried out by covert agents. Featuring interviews with real officials, officers, and spies.” Which certainly piques our interest.

It goes on to promise “Amazing stories from the files of the CIA , DIA , Mossad, MI6, Russian SVR and the other top intelligence services you didn’t know existed. Capitalizing on Big Media’s recent successes with Spycraft and CIA Vs. Bin Laden: First In, the company goes deep into the world’s leading spy agencies to bring amazing secret missions to life. Each episode looks not only at the mission itself, but also the spies who led them, the agencies behind them, and the stakes involved.”

But here’s the weird thing: there’s no mention of the series on Big Media’s website, and info on both IMDB and Netflix are surprisingly slim. Who directed it? No idea. How many episodes? Your guess is as good as ours. Episode length? Insufficient data to speculate. Clearly there’s a lot of sensitive information being kept from the public, but we have agents in the field as we speak, pressuring a low-level Netflix functionary with a gambling problem to hand over a manila folder full of production details. Of course, should that op go south, you’re just gonna have to wait til September.
