AMC+ is now a standalone streaming service, with a new slate of killer titles
The US TV channel that brought us Breaking Bad and Mad Men, AMC+ knows a thing or two about keeping folks glued to the small screen. In November of 2021 we announced the launch of their premium streaming bundle: basically a service you could add on to your Prime Video or Apple TV services for access to a whole bunch of quality shows.
A new announcement, though, proves that AMC+ is capable of standing on its own two feet. From September 30, AMC+ is available as a suite of “direct-to-consumer apps”, giving you all that good new stuff plus access to spooky service Shudder and the Brit-centric Acorn TV, without the need to go through Amazon or Apple.
Hit up this link to enjoy a special limited-period introductory offer: your one-year subscription will round out to just $4.99 a month, a 45% discount on the standard price. Shudder and Acorn TV subscriptions would typically set you back about $6.99 per month, so the fact that we can now get them for free with AMC+‘s new service is quite the deal.
Starting with your week-long free trial, you can experience “a wide selection of critically-acclaimed, award-winning scripted and unscripted series”, including all-time faves like Mad Men and whatever’s next from The Walking Dead. The original programming on AMC+ is nothing to sniff at, either, with the Navajo western Dark Winds maintaining a perfect 100% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and Australian vampire series Firebite getting rave reviews.
Speaking of vampires, this weekend’s premiere of TV adaptation Interview With The Vampire has come just in time. It’s a sensuous new take on an immortal friendship (romance?) from the Anne Rice canon. “Let the tale seduce you”, GoT star Jacob Anderson invites new AMC+ subscribers in the trailer above, “just as I was seduced.”
General Manager Courtney Thomasma celebrated the new independence of the service in a press release: “AMC+ offers thousands of hours of premium programming for Australian viewers, including full access to Acorn TV and Shudder. We are thrilled to bring our slate of critically acclaimed original series to audiences in Australia through a new suite of direct-to-consumer apps.” The platform was tempting before, but now as it’s truly doing its own thing, it’s downright app-etizing.
