The Beatles: Get Back rooftop concert will soon rock Australian cinemas
“I wanna do a film for cinema”, Paul McCartney suggests. John Lennon drawls back that it’s a good idea. All George Harrison has to say is that the vibes are good, man, and Ringo doesn’t talk at all.
And that’s just from the trailer for The Beatles: Get Back’s extended rooftop concert doco! Imagine all the extra Beatles moments you’ll get from seeing the feature on the big screen: it’s easy if you try, apparently.
After the Disney+ release of the revelatory Peter Jackson docuseries The Beatles: Get Back, IMAX has isolated footage of the band’s 1969 rooftop concert. It’s the climactic performance all three episodes of Get Back were building up to, perhaps the final moment the public saw John, Paul, George and Ringo as a united powerhouse of pop legend.
IMAX and traditional cinemas around Australia will get to enjoy a limited series of screenings, showing off just the 60-minute long feature in all its rocking and/or rolling glory. Melbourne’s IMAX cinema will screen The Beatles: Get Back—The Rooftop Concert from February 10 to 13. The film will be available in other Victorian cinemas from the 17th, and also in select nationwide cinemas from the 10th.
Peter Jackson has expressed excitement for this recut version of his painstakingly restored footage, proud that it’s “going to be experienced in IMAX, on that huge screen…It’s The Beatles’ last concert, and it’s the absolute perfect way to see and hear it.”
IMAX sound quality could definitely take your Beatlemania to the next level: it’ll be awesome to hear Billy Preston’s smooth keyboard, the band’s timeless vocals, and even John’s snide little non sequiturs in booming surround sound.
