The Comey Rule: what it’s about and how to watch it in Australia
Yesterday’s current events are today’s melodrama in The Comey Rule, a two-night TV event chronicling the earth-shattering 2016 US election and its aftermath. Jeff Daniels plays FBI Director James Comey and Brendan Gleeson, in hilariously accurate bronzer, plays President Donald Trump.
Based on Comey’s bestselling book A Higher Loyalty, the series shows the parallel stories of Comey’s search for corrupt Russian interference in the controversial election, and Donald Trump’s gradual rise to the White House.
The Comey Rule is now available to to stream on Stan.
In the trailer below, we get a sense of Daniels’ chagrinned intensity as Comey, and the showmanship Gleeson brings out in Trump. No matter which side you land on politically, the series looks entertaining at the very least.
The Comey Rule also has a killer supporting cast including Holly Hunter, Jennifer Ehle, Jonathan Banks, and Scoot McNairy, all playing the Attorney Generals and FBI lawyers whose interviews contributed to Comey’s book and to the development of the TV show itself.
Premiering over two big nights, back to back, The Comey Rule is certainly billing itself as a larger-than-life, unmissable meeting of recent politics and prestige TV; if you can’t funnel the last four years of US political corruption into a real-life House of Cards reboot, what else can ya do with em?
