The first trailer for Jurassic World Dominion brings the OG gang back together
It’s somehow been about five years since the last entry in the Jurassic World sequel franchise. The first movie introduced an even bigger, badder dino theme park than the one we were awed by in 1993, and the second movie set those dangerous beasties free in our world.
Now, the concluding film promises to bring it all home with some familiar faces. Jurassic World Dominion hits Australian cinemas on June 9, heralding the end of the Jurassic era and the end of this mixed-bag sequel trilogy.
Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard still show up in the scaly, scary trailer below, of course, but they’re somewhat sidelined by nostalgia-baiting scenes of Laura Dern, Sam Neill, and Jeff Goldblum having a good ol’ ‘here we go again’ moment together.
“You didn’t come out all this way just to catch up”, Neill’s Alan Grant smirks at Dern’s Ellie Sattler from the shelter of a desert tent—not unlike the audience’s introduction to these characters way back in Jurassic Park. But now, the dinosaurs are unleashed in snowy plains, cities, farmhouses. And they’re bigger. “Why do they always have to go bigger?”, complains Dr Ian Malcolm (Goldblum).
Franchise fans—and also young kids who are inexplicably obsessed with dinosaurs—will love the sheer amount and variety of dinos included in the film, Universal seemingly going big before these characters go home for a while. We love to see the return of the fabulous dilophosaurus that made mincemeat of Dennis Nedry, now hissing in Howard’s face.
There’s also glimpses of a motorbike action scene that looks like it could’ve been shot on the same location as No Time To Die. Except for the big angry lizards, that is, sprinting and snapping at Chris Pratt.
