The trailer and release date for Penguin Bloom, starring Naomi Watts and Jacki Weaver
Naomi Watts and Jacki Weaver are two of our country’s most beloved (and Oscar-nominated!) acting exports, both with a seriously impressive array of roles all over the comedy and drama spectrum.
The actors will appear together as mother and daughter in Penguin Bloom, an upcoming film based on the true news story of a Magpie named Penguin that helped bring a family back together after astounding adversity.
Based on the book of the same name by Bradley Trevor Greive, Penguin Bloom is the story of Sam and Cameron Bloom (Watts and The Walking Dead‘s Andrew Lincoln). Whilst on an overseas holiday as a family, Sam fell 20 feet from a collapsing balcony and was left unable to walk. The Bloom family struggled to adapt to their new situation, but help came in the form of an injured baby magpie that the Bloom’s three young sons quickly name ‘Penguin’.
Penguin slowly turns from a welcome distraction into a member of the family, making a profound difference in Sam’s wellbeing. And if you haven’t heard of this adorable animal-friendship news item before, you should definitely check out some of the Bloom family’s videos on Youtube; this bird is basically just a lil black-and-white dog with a beak, snuggling up to its adoptive parents in an extremely cute fashion.
Aussie bird-watchers (or Naomi Watts fans, a.k.a. everyone in the world) can look forward to seeing Penguin Bloom in cinemas around the country from January 21, and you may even be able to snag some tickets now via the link below. I am a magpie, and Jacki Weaver + heartwarming Aussie family drama are the shiny things I seek.
