Trailer and release date for Tiktok generation horror movie Sissy
You wait all year for a razor-sharp Generation Z satirical horror movie to come along and suddenly two show up at once. Not only is the fun Bodies Bodies Bodies with Amandla Stenberg and Pete Davidson getting a lot of attention, but Australian offering Sissy is finally getting a wide release after winning much acclaim on the festival circuit.
Starring Aisha Dee, Sissy will be out in Australian cinemas from October 27.
Dee plays Cecelia, formerly known as Sissy, who has gotten over a childhood spent as a victim of bullying to reinvent herself as a popular wellness influencer on social media. But a chance encounter with her former BFF Emma (Hannah Barlow, who co-writes and directs with Kane Senes) sees her invited to a hen’s weekend away before Emma’s wedding to Fran (Lucy Barrett).
Things get weird, however, when Cecelia’s former old bully Alex (Emily De Margheriti) arrives on the scene, bearing both a grudge and a scar that Cecilia gave her after one cutting remark too many. All that wellness jargon doesn’t last long in the face of bone-deep enmity, and before too long someone is going to reach for a weapon. Sometimes “re-opening old wounds” isn’t as metaphorical as we might hope…
Co-starring Daniel Monks (Pulse) and Yerin Ha (Halo), Sissy is a savage takedown of Gen-Z culture, skewering both the way people present a false reality on social media and how the language of self-help and victimhood can used as a weapon.
Being a horror movie, you can bet that a few other things get skewered too, and perhaps an improvised weapon or two might well come into play. Whether you’re a Gen Z kid keen to see your cohort on the screen or a bitter elder grinning at the thought of those darn kids getting what’s coming to them, Sissy is a must for horror fans.
