When will Star Wars: Rogue Squadron be released in Australia?
That’s no moon; that’s an approaching release date, looming over Christmas 2023 with little hope of fulfilment.
Star Wars: Rogue Squadron was announced as a standalone feature film set in that familiar galaxy far, far away, to be directed by Wonder Woman filmmaker Patty Jenkins. Since 2020’s Disney Investor Day, however, we haven’t had much news about this original story focusing on the starfighter pilot program.
The latest updates to Disney’s release schedule show that the project has been pulled from its planned production during 2022. The Hollywood Reporter alleges that the delays are due to Jenkins’ other directing commitments, like another Wonder Woman sequel…
…only Wonder Woman 3 is set to film after Rogue Squadron. As is another Gal Godot collaboration, in which the DC actress would play Cleopatra for Jenkins. All in all, it’s unclear whether the “Top Gun + Star Wars” title will make its original December 2023 release date. In the teaser below, Jenkins sure seems like she has a lot of personal stakes in the film.
Explaining that she’s the daughter of a fighter pilot and has long wanted to make “the greatest fighter pilot movie of all time”, the Breaking Bad director wistfully walks off towards a life-size X-Wing. She promises that she’s going to see us “very soon”.
Basically, Patty lied. Right to our faces, through the orange visor of a resistance helmet. We might just forgive her once Disney announces any further confirmed info on Star Wars: Rogue Squadron. That, or Wonder Woman 3 will have to be pretty damn spectacular to make up for the last one.
