Wolf Man: Australian trailer and release date

You know who came out of the Great Dark Universe Schmozzle smelling like roses? Australian critic-turned-filmmaker Leigh Whannell, that’s who. Having already given us his superb update of The Invisible Man, he’s now ready to take us on a trip to the hairier side of horror with his lycanthropic latest.

When is Wolf Man being released in Australia?

What is Wolf Man about?

A werewolf!

Or possibly more than one, judging by the trailer. After his father disappears, family man Blake heads off to the Oregon wilderness with his wife, Charlotte, and young daughter, Ginger (as in Snaps?) to take stock of the old family home. As tends to happen in this sort of thing, Blake gets bitten by some manner of ravenous beast in the woods. The family holes up in the old farmhouse, and while the stout walls may hold off whatever critter is prowling around outside, whether Charlotte and Ginger are safe from dad is another matter entirely.

Expect fur, fangs, howling at the moon, and some tough choices. That’s pretty standard plotting for a werewolf flick, but we have faith that Wolf Man has a few surprises up its sleeve.

The cast of Wolf Man

Christopher Abbott (Martha Marcy May Marlene) is Blake; Ozark‘s Julia Garner is workaholic Charlotte; newcomer Matilda Firth is Ginger; and Sam Jaeger, Ben Prendergast, and frequent Whannell collaborator Benedict Hardie round out the cast.

Why we’re excited about Wolf Man

Cards on the table: we love werewolves, and there simply are not enough good werewolf movies around, although here’s a list we prepared earlier. With Leigh Whannell’s steady hand on the tiller, coupled with his deep love and understanding of the genre, we should be in for a ferociously good time when this one drops in the new year.
