Brendan O'Malley (Kirk Douglas), a former gunslinger, visits Mexico to rendezvous with his old flame, Belle Breckenridge (Dorothy Malone) only to find her married. When a sheriff (Rock Hudson) with some debts to settle tracks O'Malley down, tensions begin to mount.
