Top Picks: TV
The Lincoln Lawyer: Season 2 (July 6)
In this continuing legal procedural, LA lawyer Mickey Haller (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo) is not your regular degular suited-up shark: nah, he practices law out of the back of his Lincoln Town Car, juggles his (two!) adoring ex-wives’ demands, and isn’t against his clients paying him back with cheeky lil favours when money’s not an option. Clarisse Loughrey’s review of the first season had her sarcastically exclaiming, “Gosh, that guy really is too cool for the office! Colour me impressed!”, but if you ate up season one’s unorthodox courtroom shenanigans, these new episodes should go down a treat.
Survival of the Thickest (July 13)
What a great title for a show about a plus-size gal trying to pick up the pieces of her love life. A semi-autobiographical comedy based on the misadventures of star and creator Michelle Buteau, the show features a dazzling supporting cast of hilarious Black talent, including GOAT Nicole Byer and New York drag legend Peppermint. Expect bold fashion, some gut-bustingly awful first dates, and probably a healthy self-esteem boost.
The Witcher: Season 3 Part 2 (July 27)
I wonder if viewership of this action-fantasy series will drop off sharply once Henry Cavill leaves the lead role—or maybe fans of the video game and novel series will give the new Geralt, Liam Hemsworth, a fair shot. War is already brewing in the current batch of season three episodes, and it’ll outright explode in this next instalment, with Geralt and Yennefer doing whatever it takes to keep crown princess Ciri safe.

WHAM! (July 5)
Try out this fab 80s doco before you go-go into the rest of July. It’ll reveal all about the friendship, mind-numbingly catchy tunes, and global success of pop duo George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley, who amazingly were only really active between 1982 and 1986, when they performed their last gig together at Wembley Stadium. Fans might also not know that they were the first Western pop act to play in China—who knows what other neat lil factoids we might discover through this tuneful documentary portrait.
The Out-Laws (July 7)
Adam Devine has done this kind of loud, shouty crime-comedy before, but I’m much more fascinated by whatever bonkers accent Pierce Brosnan is going for: Welsh? Irish? Middle Earth? Devine and his fiance Nina Dobrev are bamboozled when his bank is robbed by a pair of elite burglars who eerily resemble her folks, Brosnan and Ellen Barkin. The question, then, is whether Devine should buy into the seedy family business and help them pull off their daring stunts or not.
They Cloned Tyrone (July 21)
Drawing from the wild canon of Blaxploitation capers and conspiracy thrillers, we’ve been anticipating this stylish feature for a while now (filming wrapped at the start of last year). Even if its pulpy plot of cool people uncovering a fantastical government plot disappoints, we can at least admire the sick 70s-inspired costumes. And all three leads (Jamie Foxx, Teyonah Parris, and John Boyega) should be able to combat any cracked-out tinfoil turns of event with slick charisma and chemistry.
