Welcome to Flatch: Seasons 1-2 (May 4)
From the seasoned sitcom creators Jenny Bicks and Paul Fieg comes another mockumentary comedy, Welcome to Flatch. Set in the eponymous town of Flatch, Ohio, presumably this documentary film crew aims to explore middle-America in the search for the “simple life.” With an eccentric cast of townspeople, early reviews saw the potential in the show but some of the jokes failed to land. With an all-new second season, could the show be a small plug in a Schitt’s Creek shaped hole?
The Great: Season 3 (May 13)
What more needs to be said? This award-winning series written by Australian Tony McNamara is wickedly funny, and back for a highly anticipated third season. Nicholas Hoult as the dim Tsar Peter and Elle Fanning as the cunning Catherine the Great play so well against each other: their disdain is palpable. After attempting to murder Peter in the previous season, Catherine now tries to make their marriage work. Like that’ll happen. Huzzah!
Run the World: Season 2 (May 26)
Instead of re-watching Sex and the City for the umpteenth time, say hello to Whitney (Amber Stevens West), Ella (Andrea Bordeaux), Renee (Bresha Webb) and Sondi (Corbin Reid), four fiercely loyal best friends traversing through life, love and world domination in Harlem. Shows like this, where female best friends take on the city together as they navigate their lives and ambition will never grow old, because there is something so special, unique, and magical about the power of friendship. So good!
Top Picks: Movies + Specials
Superbad (May 1)
I said it once, and I’ll say it again: bring back the party film!! As two nerdy and co-dependant best friends Seth (Jonah Hill) and Evan (Michael Cera) set off for a night of partying in the hopes of losing their virginities, it sparks a night of mishaps, debauchery and misadventure. Above all, Superbad is an odyssey film, where one night can change everything, and it’s also a real testament to best friendship.
No Time to Die (May 11)
With every Bond film available to stream on Stan, you can now complete your super-mega marathon with the arrival of No Time to Die. Daniel Craig’s last film as the legendary and eponymous James Bond, it’s a grand old spectacle in both scope and scale, as the Craig Bond films are known to be. Ana de Armas and Lashana Lynch are a welcome addition.
Happy as Lazzaro (May 21)
Lazzaro! In a stunning display of Italian magical neo-realism, Alice Rohrwacher’s Happy as Lazzaro is a portrait of a kind Italian peasant and a critique of class and capitalism. I’ll always remember the collective gasp that went around the cinema when I first saw this film. It’s one that will stick with you.
